OUR STORY
‘Kiranda’
Penola, South Australia
Previously running an autumn lambing, traditional Border Leister Merino 1st cross ewe, our system lacked lamb output (kgs per ha) and profit.
We added the Baroola gene for fertility but inherited huge lamb survival issues and poor carcase conformation. Then later tried adding the White Suffolk to address the previous issues.
As a result, we lost all hybrid vigour, fertility and our mature ewe weight increased.
I looked to New Zealand sheep farmers for answers.
The most important message I learnt and now tell all Australian farmers:
Purpose Built Maternal + Purpose Build Terminal
This, combined with world best genetics, solved all my problems.
We were fortunate to discover the New Zealand Highlander and Primera breeds and were able to import embryos from their very best nucleus donors in 2013.
Our Kiranda Maternal and Kiranda Prime flock has now completely descended from these embryos.
Changing to spring lambing and using improved maternal, self-replacing genetics has increased our lamb output by 40%.
With Bayden Wilson guaranteeing peace of mind and providing invaluable support for new and existing clients, we are now extremely confident in sharing our genetics with farmers across Australia to boost flock productivity, increase profit and compliment the prime lamb industry.
